I don’t know if it was meant to be ironic, but I was asked to speak at the AIGA SHIFT conference in Portland about sustainable manufacturing. I talked about the difficulty of finding manufacturers in the US, and shared some of the horror stories of manufacturing in China. The title of the presentation was “Made in the USA. Made Again in China.”

Happy Udder

Reason 2 Ride is a series of bike races that raises money for various charities. The Utah series is referred to as the “udder” (UTRR – UT Reason to Ride)Â so I was asked to do something that combined cows and bikes, not a common request. I decided to do a disembodied cow udder — on a bike — crossing the finish line.

A client had a personal project for me to do a portrait of Bob Marley. I took the opportunity to use the hatchy style from the trees and water towers prints, but, this time drawing it digitally as opposed to doing it in ink. Although I don’t think it necessarily looks any more digital than the others, I like how it turned out.
Northwest Trees

When we went to Oregon to find a place to live, we looked at a house with about a zillion trees that were each about a zillion feet tall. If one of them fell, it would easily break the poor little house into a zillion pieces.

A local website where people can comment about why they love Portland wanted an illustration that captured some of the unique qualities of the city: the mountains, the trees, the strange bikes, beer, coffee, and the bacon donut.
